چکیده
Heart failure and persistent respiratory insufficiency associated with patent ductus arterioeus occur frequently in lowbirth-weight infants.'-" Surgical ligation of the patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) has been advocated when conservative medical management fails.3 '7 This report describes our experience with 14 patients averaging a weight of less than 1500 grams each who were presented for thoracotomy and patent ductus arteriosus ligation. A retrospective study was made in an effort to identify management problems, and to propose solutions.

Failure of indomethacin to close persistent ductus arteriosus in infants weighing under 1000 grams.
Six preterm infants with a persistent ductus arteriosus, who failed to improve with conventional medical management, received indomethacin in an attempt to close the duct pharmacologically. All infants weighed less than 1000 g when the drug was administered. All showed a transient response to indomethacin; however, no infant demonstrated a permanent response, even though 5 of the 6 received mul...
متن کاملIntravenous Paracetamol and Patent Ductus Arteriosus Closure
Background: Standard medical treatments for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) closure are, including indomethacin/ibuprofen and surgical ligation. Nowadays, a new strategy to close PDA is the use of paracetamol. The present study aimed to describe the use of intravenous (IV) paracetamol for PDA closure in neonates who present a contraindication to ibuprofen or ibuprofen failure with no possibility...

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) was diagnosed in 27 (21 %) of 129 infants weighing < 1500 g at birth presenting over I years. The incidence ofPDA in infants with pulmonary disease, particularly hyaline membrane disease, was higher than that in infants without such disease (31% compared with 16%). 16 (59%) infants with PDA developed congestive cardiac failure (CCF), of whom 12 were <1000 g at bir...

During a 7 month period, April to October, 1984, 537 consecutive babies weighing upto 2000 gm were studied at the Kenyatta National Hospital's newborn unit. Of these 48 (8.9%) had murmurs suggestive of patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). Their mean birth weight was 1364 +/- 482 gm while the mean gestation was 30.5 weeks. The peak incidence occurred in the weight group 1001 to 1500 gm. 15 (31%) of a...

Objective Preterm and extrmely low birth weight infants require meticulous anesthetic care, especially for deteriorated hemodynamic status in emergency ligation of patent ductus arteriosus. Clinical presentation An 820 gram female infant, born at 29 weeks of gestation by Caesarean section for premature rupture of membranes, presented with infant respiratory distress syndrome associated with ren...
